ABSTRACT
This work
aims to report the development of the demands of labor in China and their
impact on business and economics, based on information collected in
presentations and visits to universities and companies in the cities of
Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing in China in 2014. The economic and social
development in China resulted in several events with direct and indirect impacts
on their workforce. The migration of rural population to the cities, the one-child
policy, the increased demand for skilled labor, the increased level of
education and the growing number of strikes demanding mainly wage increase and
the fulfillment of labor rights are factors that are significantly changing
society and the Chinese economy. These factors cause the rising cost of labor,
reducing the competitiveness of Chinese industry against the world market. On
the other hand, the rising cost of labor increases the per capita income, which
is directly related to the increase in domestic consumption of the country. Facing
this, China is facing great challenges that reflect on major social and
economic changes to maintain its economic growth, associated with the
development of the country.
